YouTube Says Goodbye to Trending and Hello to Charts and Creator Tools

YouTube is officially retiring its iconic Trending page and Trending Now section on 21 July 2025, replacing them with more meaningful discovery tools aimed at reflecting how viewers find content today in today's digital landscape.

Why the Change? When YouTube launched Trending in 2015, it served as a central hub showcasing viral videos to hordes of curious viewers. But over the last five years, it’s lost traction. Users increasingly encounter micro-trends, niche content communities, and algorithmic recommendations, rendering a single, ‘catch-all’ feed now outdated.

As YouTube explained, “trends consist of many videos created by many fandoms,” and today's platform is far more fragmented than a decade ago.

Replacing Trending, YouTube is rolling out YouTube Charts, category-specific leaderboards that spotlight top videos in music, podcasts, movie trailers, and more; however, gaming trends, for example, will continue via the Gaming Explore page.

Meanwhile, users can still browse non-personalized content through Explore, subscriptions, and channel pages. But the primary discovery route has shifted toward highly personalized recommendations through the user’s home feed.

YouTube is spotlighting tools within YouTube Studio through the Inspiration Tab, which offers tailored trend analysis and content ideas based on performance data and Hype, a paid feature letting fans boost emerging videos.

Programs like Creators on the Rise and dedicated sections for emerging music artists aim to keep fresh talent in focus.

YouTube’s decision to retire Trending underscores its pivot toward personalization, community-driven trends, and modern viewing habits seen on platforms like TikTok. By replacing one-size-fits-all with category-specific Charts and algorithmic discovery, YouTube is aligning more closely with how audiences consume content today, making discovery more relevant and tailored, while still offering creators visibility and support.
